152 poplars were destroyed last week in Chisinau
Workers from the Association of Green Spaces Management of the capital cut off, last week, 152 poplars, the head of the association, Grigore Taban, announced during the operative meeting of the mayoralty.
According to Taban, the cuts off are done according to the agenda set for every day and are coordinated with the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources and with the State Ecologic Inspectorate. Thus, till the end of this year all female poplars will be cut off.
Interim mayor Vasile Ursu noted during the same meeting that the works started with cutting off old poplars, following in their place to be planted other species of trees. Vasile Ursu ensured that the pyramidal poplars would not be touched. According to him, about 15% of poplars will be cut that make down. Thus, in the district Rascani about 2,604 poplars shall be cut off, in district Botanica - 2,911, in district Buiucani – 1,282, in district Centru – 1,114, in district Ciocana – 411 poplars.
Vasile Ursu mentioned that this year there would be planted 43,500 trees aged 5-6, almost half of the number of cut trees. Referring to trees’ price, which shall be purchased from the state enterprise Moldsilva, the interim mayor said that it would be reduced, according to disposal of prime minister Tarlev. Moreover, he noted that Moldsilva has promised already to local authorities selling the trees at the price 30-40 lei. Previously, sources within Moldsilva said that the price of a tree aged 5-6, depending on the species and height, varies between 300 and 400 lei.
The chairman of Chisinau Territorial Ecological Movement, Vladimir Garaba, said that what happened in the capital is a real war against green spaces. The letters of ecologists addressed to mayoralty, presidency, parliament, government did not get any answer, thus they will met personally with country’s leadership in order to stop the “disorder”. Garaba notes that the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources did not have the right to coordinate the cutting off plan of the mayoralty, this thing, according to legislation in force, had to be done by the Academy of Science.
Beside this, he mentioned, it is needed the agreement of non-governmental organisations and of the population of the cutting areas. Garaba noted that local authorities have to start soon regeneration and the cutting off green areas within the districts and near the apartment blocs, according to complaints of citizens regarding the excessive darkness of apartment blocs and damaging of constructions’ basis.
On Monday, a TV station of Chisinau broadcasted sequences of the cutting off activity of poplars in one of the most polluted street of the capital – street Uzinelor. It was clear of tit that trees were not old or damaged. The price of such poplar is between 700 and 1,500 lei.
