15 mln Yuan for alleviating effects of drought in Moldova
The Government of China will provide 15 mln Yuan (2 mln USD) in non-reimbursable assistance to help Moldova overcome the consequences of this year’s drought.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Moldova Jianwei Gong told Speaker Marian Lupu at a meeting that the official decision has been taken and the technical details will be coordinated with the Moldovan authorities in the near future, a communiqué from the Parliament’s press service says.
According to the authorities, the risk in agriculture fund now includes 1 mln dollars offered by the Government of Azerbaijan, 50,000 dollars from the Red Cross in China, 75,000 dollars from the international company Itera Group and about 850,000 lei from Moldova Gaz. The U.S. Government has distributed seeds worth 350,000 dollars to the Moldovan farmers. The Czech Republic provided over 400 tonnes of seeds. Moldova obtained a 10 mln USD loan from the World Bank and Prime Minister Vasile Tarlev confirmed recently a decision by Ukraine to offer 6 mln hrivnas in aid and diesel oil worth 1.2 mln dollars to Moldova.
