14% of fields have been ploughed so far
Only 14% of the fields or 117,800 hectares have been ploughed in Moldova until present owing to a scarcity of financial resources, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry said, quoited by Info-Prim Neo.
The situation in some of the districts is satisfactory. In Falesti, there were ploughed 83% of the projected area, in Rascani – 79 %, in Donduseni – 77 %, in Cimislia – 75 %, in Ocnita - 74 %.
The autumn ploughing is very slow in such districts as Cahul, Hancesti, Ialoveni, Leova, and Telenesti, where only 2-5% of the fields were ploughed.
Cantemir, Calarasi, Nisporeni and Straseni districts have not yet started the ploughing.
262,800 hectares have been prepared for the autumn sowing, or about 59% of the planned area.
The second group crops are now being harvested. The corn was reaped from 23.600 hectares of the existing 285,800. The average productivity per hectare is about 29.7 quintals. The corn for silage was harvested from 78% of the fields.
The sunflower was collected from 82,600 hectares or 38% of the fields.
As there was no rain this autumn, the sowing of rape was delayed. Only 15,600 hectares or 26.5% of the planned area have been sowed so far.
The winter wheat was sowed on 510 hectares of the planned 308,800.
According to Mihail Suvac, the head of the Agriculture Ministry's Phytotechny, Seed Growing and Horticulture Division, said that money is needed to complete the ploughing, but it is hard to find resources in times of crises and when the sales are low.
In order to improve the financial situation of the economic entities affected by the natural disasters of 2007, the Government decided to provide them with 30 liters of diesel oil per hectare of arable land.
