A number of 55 persons, 13 of whom children, in 2019 benefitted from financial support from the state for receiving treatment abroad or doing abroad costly medical examinations that are not performed in national healthcare facilities. The Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection allocated 5 million lei for the purpose.
In a response to an inquiry made by IPN News Agency, the Ministry said the state provides financial assistance, covering a part of the costs of expensive treatment abroad, namely for medical services that are not available in the country.
The size of funds allocated for treatment or costly examinations abroad are agreed in the meeting of the commission for the selection of patients for treatment or costly examinations by studying confirmatory financial documents concerning the cost of received treatment.
Among the diseases that are most often accepted for being treated abroad are advanced cancers, neurosurgical tumors, different severe congenital anomalies that require cardio-surgical treatment and some urgent surgical states.
