112 Service to be launched at end-March

The Automated Information System of the National Common Emergency Telephone Service 112 will be partially put into operation at the end of this March and fully by June 30. The initial deadline was the fourth quarter of 2018, IPN reports, with reference to the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure.

The 112 Service will take over and process emergency calls to a universal telephone number and will reduce the intervention time of specialized services. This will work nonstop and all the calls to it will be free, both in the landline network and in the mobile phone network.

The service will have two phone processing centers, each with own technological areas, but these will be interoperable.

'112' is the common European emergency number in official use across the 28 EU member states.
