Moldovans took out more loans in September

In September, new loans granted amounted to 6,286 million lei, marking an 11.6% increase compared to August. The majority—75.5%—represented loans in lei, totaling 4,748.9 million lei. In terms of loan terms, the most requested were those with durations from 2 to 5 years, accounting for 54.5% of the total loans granted, according to IPN.

According to data from the National Bank of Moldova, the average nominal rate for new loans in the national currency decreased by 0.27 percentage points compared to the previous month, reaching 8.41%, while the average rate for foreign currency loans increased by 0.03 percentage points, reaching 5.96%.

In September, individuals contracted loans amounting to 1,988.6 million lei, a decrease of 4.9% compared to the previous month, with the majority (60.5%) being consumer loans. Most of the consumer loans granted to individuals were in the national currency with terms of 2 to 5 years.

Mortgage loans accounted for 39.1% of the total new loans granted to individuals, all contracted in Moldovan lei.

The average rate for consumer loans in the national currency increased by 0.06 percentage points to 10.41%, while the average rate for mortgage loans in the national currency decreased by 0.31 percentage points to 7.16%.

Compared to the previous month, legal entities requested more loans in the national currency in September (+26.4%). The volume of foreign currency loans increased by 11.3%, and those tied to the exchange rate surged 2.9 times.

The majority (61.5%) of new loans were contracted by non-financial commercial companies.

The average rate for loans granted to legal entities in the national currency decreased by 0.13 percentage points, reaching 7.84%. Meanwhile, the average rate for loans granted in foreign currency increased by 0.03 percentage points, reaching 5.96%.
