MFA: Russia uses again energy resources to destabilize Moldova

In reaction to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov's accusations, Chisinau dismissed these as "unfounded and unjustified". In a press release, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) reminds of the violation of the contract that was supposed to remain valid until 2026, under which the Russian company Gazprom had to honor its obligation to deliver gas to the Republic of Moldova. The Ministry notes that "the critical situation related to energy resources in the Transnistrian region is the result of Gazprom's decision" and accuses the Russian Federation of "using again energy resources as a political weapon with the aim of destabilizing our country."

The Moldovan diplomatic service describes the Russian side's statements as "unconstructive and contrary to the efforts to promote a climate of stability and security in the region." At the same time, the Moldovan authorities urge the Russian authorities "to refrain from provocative rhetoric and to contribute to supporting a peaceful dialogue."

In conclusion, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stresses that "the Republic of Moldova maintains its commitment to protecting the interests of its citizens, including those from the Transnistrian region”.
