Zubco: Plahotniuc is not wanted by Interpol
Prosecutor General Valeriu Zubco denied that First Deputy Speaker Vlad Plahotniuc is wanted by Interpol. The parliamentary commission on national security Wednesday questioned Valeriu Zubco and the director of the National Interpol Office in Moldova Valentina Litvinov over the statements made by the Communist MPs earlier.
After the commission’s meeting, Valeriu Zubco told the press that the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office asked the relevant information from the National Interpol Office, but the answer was negative. “We received the answer that Vladimir Plahotniuc is not investigated by Interpol and no decision was taken on this case. If a decision had existed, steps would have been taken in accordance with the Penal Code,” said the prosecutor general.
On the other hand, Communist MP Artur Reshetnikov said that the representatives of the two institutions did not provide clear information over this subject. “It is total chaos. At least we did not receive an answer that would clarify things. On the contrary, they became vaguer after today’s meeting,” he stated.
In a sitting of Parliament several weeks ago, the Communist MPs said they possess information that the Interpol Office in Italy made an order to supervise all the contacts and movements of Vlad Plahotniuc through Europe because he is suspected of being part of a criminal group and of being involved in money laundering and organized crime.
