The Party of Socialists’ candidate Zinaida Grecheanyi said she is ready to compete for the mayoralty of Chisinau with the Liberal candidate Dorin Chirtoaca in the second round and will promote the same electoral message as before June 14. She made such a statement in a news conference on June 15, IPN reports.
“We will not become involved in politics or geopolitics. Neither Russia nor Romania or the U.S. will come to bring things in our country in order. Our opponent caused hysteria in society by saying that we play Moscow’s game. But is the fact that the roads are not repaired, the businessmen close their businesses and the City Hall is corrupt Moscow’s game? I will suggest designating by a councilor for each street, who would be close to the people living there and would deal with their problems. I didn’t see councilors meeting with the residents. The people saw them only on TV,” stated Zinaida Grecheanyi.
The chairman of the Party of Socialists Igor Dodon said the Socialists rank third by the number of councilors in the local public administration and will immediately start to form coalitions at local level. “We will form coalitions with those from the Our Party, with those who ran independently and possibly with some of the Communist councilors. A coalition with the PLDM, PDM and PL is excluded”, he stated.
Dorin Chirtoaca polled 37.52% of the ballot in Chisinau, while Zinaida Grecheanyi – 35.68%, according to the preliminary results. The two will duel in the second round of voting in two weeks.
