The Party of Socialists’ candidate for the mayoralty of Chisinau Zinaida Grecheanyi may win the race for the Chisinau City Hall by 51% of the vote in the second round of the mayoral elections, shows a poll by the Association of Sociologists and Demographers of Moldova, IPN reports.
According to the poll, 48.6% of those who voted for Oazu Nantoi in the first round of voting would vote for Dorin Chirtoaca in the second round, while 78.5% of those who voted for Ilian Casu would vote for Zinaida Grecheanyi.
The Association’s head Victor Mocanu said there is a risk that the voter turnout in the second round of elections will be much lower than in the first round. “Only 37% of those surveyed said they will definitely cast their votes. Almost each fifth respondent said he/she is determined not to take part in elections next Sunday. The local authorities of Chisinau and the Central Election Commission should take measures to convince the people to vote,” he stated.
The poll covered a sample of 1,147 persons from all the districts and suburban settlements of Chisinau municipality. The margin of sampling error is 2%.
