The Party of Socialists’ candidate for the mayoralty of Chisinau Zinaida Grecheanyi invited her opponent Dorin Chirtoaca, of the Liberal Party, to public debates in the Great National Assembly Square of Chisinau. The invitation was made in a news conference on June 23, IPN reports.
“I was accused of avoiding electoral debates. Given that the airtime allotted by TV channels for electoral debates is limited and the candidates cannot state all their opinions, I invite Dorin Chirtoaca to an electoral debate in the central square of Chisinau on June 25, at 11am. There, the electoral debates can last for three hours or even until evening,” stated Zinaida Greceanyi.
She also said that each candidate should be accompanied by the newly elected team of councilors, who will provide solutions to the problems faced by the capital city. Moreover, Grecheanyi compiled the agenda of the debates. “Each team will present its priorities during three minutes. Afterward, there will be analyzed each area separately – the management of public funds, development of infrastructure, social protection, cultural development, etc. We suggest that the debates should be moderated by a person who is independent from both of the camps,” said the Party of Socialists’ candidate.
Last week, Dorin Chirtoaca invited publicly Zinaida Grecheanyi to an electoral debate centering on the development of public transport in the municipality of Chisinau. The invitation was turned down.
