Zinaida Grecheanyi elected chairwomen of PSRM

Zinaida Grecheanyi was chosen to head the Party of Socialists (PSRM) in the party’s 14th Extraordinary Congress on December 18. The congress also adopted a resolution to state the opportunity of holding early parliamentary elections in the nearest future, IPN reports.

“The PSRM will be making every effort for early legislative elections to be held in 2017 and for the party to win these so as to form the administration of the new Parliament and the new Government of the country,” says the resolution adopted in the congress.

President-elect Igor Dodon, who was named by the party the leader of the Socialists of Moldova, thanked his former colleagues and all the supporters of the PSRM for the done work and for the confidence and support given to him while he headed the party. “We believed in the own forces and worked with dedication. We were consistent in our political ideas and managed to become the most important political party of the Republic of Moldova. We have the largest parliamentary group. We have a Head of State elected by the people from among the Socialists. We have the greatest chances of taking over power after the early parliamentary election,” stated Igor Dodon, who renounced membership and chairmanship in the PSRM after he was elected President. 

In her speech, the new chairwoman of the PSRM Zinaida Grecheanyi spoke about the results achieved by the party during Igor Dodon’s five-year chairmanship. She mentioned among the party’s goals the victory in the early parliamentary elections and the formation of a new parliamentary alliance and of a new government that will work for Moldova’s benefit.

In the congress, Zinaida Grecheanyi signed interparty memorandums of cooperation with representatives of the Republican Party of Labor and Justice of Belarus, the Latvian Russian Union, the Democratic Movement - United Georgia and the group of the Social-Democratic Party of Kirgizstan.

The congress involved two Russian State Duma deputy chairpersons - Vladimir Vasiliev, head of the parliamentary group of United Russia, and Olga Epifanova, a member of the Central Committee of A Just Russia. These gave welcoming speeches and congratulated the President of Moldova Igor Dodon.
