Zinaida Grecheanyi announces priorities for transport sector. ELECTIONS 2015

The Party of Socialists’ candidate for the post of mayor general of Chisinau Zinaida Grecheanyi made public her priorities in the public transport sector of Chisinau. She made electoral promises in a press briefing at the Bus Company No. 1 in Chisinau on June 19, IPN reports.

“We will not allow selling the Chisinau Urban Bus Company. We possess information that the current administration of Chisinau municipality wants to cause the bankruptcy of the company so as to privatize it later at derisory prices,” said the candidate.

Zinaida Grecheanyi leveled criticism at her opponent, the Liberal Party’s candidate Dorin Chirtoaca, saying both the Urban Bus Company and the Trolleybus Company became unprofitable. The employees of these companies haven’t been paid salaries since April. Therefore, the management supported by the Chisinau City Hall at the two companies must be changed.

The candidate also said that all the buses are fuelled by one company, which is run by the Liberal leader Mihai Ghimpu, who is Dorin Chirtoaca’s uncle. Half of the minibus routes in Chisinau are managed by a Liberal councilor. “We will not allow the Chisinau City Hall to be transformed into a family and party business,” she stated.

She added that their goal is to increase the number of new buses and trolleybuses in Chisinau by 200, which will be bought as a result of a tender contest. “We will not act like the current local administration of Chisinau, which purchased trolleybuses through the agency of a Romanian company and paid by US$40,000 more for each unit of transport,” said Zinaida Grecheanyi.

The second round of the mayoral elections will take place on June 28.
