Zinaida Greceanii fielded for president again

The former Prime Minister Zinaidei Greceanii was again put forward for the post of president of Moldova for the rerun elections scheduled for May 28, Info-Prim Neo reports. As for the May 20 voting, her candidacy was fielded by 33 MPs of the Communist Party. The PCRM leader Vladimir Voronin is not among them. The candidate’s documents were submitted to the special election holding commission in exactly a week: at the same hour (14.10) on May 21 by the first deputy speaker of Parliament, Communist MP Vladimir Turcan. Besides the signatures of the 33 candidates, the documents include the consent of the candidate, a statement showing that the candidate holds only the nationality of Moldova, the income statement, biographic data and a health certificate. Vladimir Turcan expressed his hope that this time Zinaida Greceanii will be elected and this will be a success not only for the PCRM, but also for the Parliament and the whole country. “I hope that the Opposition will realize that the political ambitions are only ambitions and the country’s fate is much more important. According to Turcan, the PCRM decided to put up again Zinaida Greceanii because “she is a commendable candidate that could conciliate those from the Opposition that are concerned about our country’s destiny.” Asked if the PCRM will field some other candidates, Vladimir Turcan said that the MPs still have time to decide on this. The commission’s president, Communist MP Valeriu Sava said that so far Zinaida Greceanii is the only candidate for the presidency. He also said that he was contacted by a person that inquired about the document submission procedure, but refused to identify himself. “We are expecting other candidates,” Sava said. The deadline for the submissions is May 22, 24.00. On May 20, the Parliament did not manage to elect the president of Moldova. Zinaida Greceanii polled 60 votes of the 61 required. All the votes were cast by the Communist MPs. The Opposition did not take part in the voting. A new round of voting will be held on May 28. The Opposition has repeatedly announced it will not participate in the election of the president as they want early elections. The parliamentary group of the PCRM holds 60 seats of MP and needs one more vote to elect the head of state.
