Zimbru aims to qualify for the playoffs of the UEFA Europa League. For this to happen, the team trained by Oleg Kubarev must eliminate Austria’s Grodig. The first-leg match is played in Austria this evening, starting at 10:05pm, IPN reports.
Zimbru never went through three qualifying rounds of the European cups. In the first two rounds, the ‘Yellow-Greens’ eliminated Skendija and CSKA Sofia. “We are in high spirits now that we eliminated CSKA. I feel that my players do not intend to stop at this stage,” Zimbru coach Oleg Kubarev said in a news conference before the match.
“In order to eliminate Zimbru, we must show two very good games. Our opponent is rather inconvenient,” said the coach of Grodig Michael Baur.
The encounter between Grodig and Zimbru is refereed by Lee Evans from Wales. The return game will take place in Chisinau on August 7. Fullback Constantin Bogdan will not play as he signed for the Russian team Enisei.
