The pressure on the reporters of the independent publication “Ziarul de Garda” (ZG) intensified after it published several stories related to corruption in Moldova’s Law system, says a notification by the newspaper team addressed to the state authorities of the R. of Moldova, including General Prosecution Office, Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Centre for Combating Corruption, as well as international organizations, diplomatic missions and media organizations. According to the publication, a series of persons, representing different state authorities, as well as persons of suspicious provenance, exercise permanent pressure on the editorial staff, making attempts of interfering in its editorial policy, of suspicious “arrangements” and even of corrupting some of the journalists. The team asserts that important state officials offer money to bargain immoral compromises with the reporters. “It is ease to presume that this way, someone intends to accumulate compromising evidence on newspapermen aimed at their subsequent manipulation, a trick utilized lately towards other media”, the notification says. “It is regrettable that persons from the public prosecution office are involved in these abuses towards the newspaper’s liberty, as well as representatives of the Parliament. Those who essay to exercise pressure on us, elaborated plans in which they engaged persons whom we always trusted or even close relatives for determining the newspapermen to renounce upon some press topics or even declare the contrary of those written in several investigation articles” the editorial staff says. The journalists from ZG reiterate their compliance will all the legal provisions in their activity and solicit specialized institutions to monitor cases of abuse exercised on the free media by corrupted structures and persons.
