The former Croatian footballer Zoran Zekic has returned as manager of FC Sheriff Tiraspol. The club announced that the 45-year-old has already signed the contract and has been presented to the team.
In the 2014/15, Zekic led Sheriff to victory in the Moldovan Cup. He took over the club when they were sitting in a lowly seventh position (out of eleven teams) in the Divizia Națională table, to eventually take Sheriff to the third spot with the same number of points as the champions and the runners-up.
In September 2015, Zekic went on to coach his native town’s NK Osijek. In the qualifying phase of the 2017–18 Europa League, Zekic’s club had a successful run to the play-off round, beating Santa Coloma, Luzern and former European champions PSV. Zoran Zekic parted ways with Osijek in March 2019.
