The National Athletics Federation chose Zalina Petrivskaya and Sergei Marghiev as the best athletes of 2019. They both have qualified for the Tokyo Olympics, IPN reports.
This year, Petrivskaya finished fourth at the Doha World Championship, this being the best position in the history of Moldova athletics at word competitions. In Qatar, Zalina threw the hamper at a distance of 74.33 meters.
Sergei Marghiev achieved his personal best also at the Doha World Championship. He ranked 16th at hammer throw with the result of 74.28 meters.
Soslan Marghiev was named the best coach of 2019, while Iuliana Dabija, who competes in triple jump, won the title of Talent of the Year. In July, she won bronze at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Baku.
