Youth Parliament informs and mounts contests on elections
The Youth Parliament of the second legislature of Moldova launched an electoral information and motivation campaign themed “The Young People’s Choice”. The campaign is intended mainly for young people who recently turned 18 and who on November 28 will take part in elections for the first time, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“The students will be informed about the method of voting and their rights and obligations,” said Diana Gorcea, a member of the Youth Parliament.
The Youth Parliament and the Central Election Commission will organize seminars and roundtable meetings where the young people, especially those who will vote for the first time, will be able to put questions and find out answers about the electoral process. The campaign will cover 30 high schools from 18 settlements, including from the Transnistrian region.
There will be also staged two contests – Best Electoral Photograph and Best Slogan “I Vote...”. In every contest, there will be awarded by three prizes of 1,000 lei each. The best photos and slogans will be presented in the Elections 2010 exhibition that will be staged in December.
In the pre-electoral period, the Youth Parliament will also organize the Parties’ Fair, where representatives of the young wings of the parties will distribute electoral materials about the objectives laid down in the platforms of the election contender that they represent.
“We hope that the campaign will help the voters to easier analyze and compare the views of different parties and will serve as an additional motivation for the young voters to participate in elections,” said Vasile Mihaies, deputy speaker of the Youth Parliament.
The electoral information and motivation campaign “The Young People’s Choice” is carried out with financial support from the East Europe Foundation Moldova and the Academy for Educational Development.
