Youth Parliament could be established in Moldova

The Moldovan Parliament will consider creating a Parliament of the Youth in Moldova at a plenary meeting next week, Speaker Marian Lupu said at the opening of the International Conference “Role of the Youth in Promoting the Spirit of Alpbach Forum as Step towards Moldova’s European Future” on February 20. This initiative will enable to transmit the knowledge and practices of parliamentary activity and will contribute to promoting the participative spirit of the youth in the public life, the Speaker said. Marian Lupu stressed that Moldova’s European future depends on the young people’s participation in daily activities at local, regional and European level. The President of the European Forum Alpbach, Erhard Busek, Special Coordinator of the Stability Pact for South Eastern Europe, said that the European future must be built by the youth because it is first of all their future. According to the chairman of the Initiative Group Alpbach Chisinau, Natalia Buga, education is one of the major problems in Moldova that has root causes in the history. We can attain a better living standard, halt the exodus of the young people, create conditions for a relatively stable social-economic development by an appropriate education of a high quality, Natalia Buga said. The European Forum Alpbach takes place in the Austrian village of Alpbach every year. Speakers and participants from all parts of the world, from science, arts, business and politics, meet in Alpbach to discuss current questions and about a new Europe. The first forum was held in 1945, when Europe needed an economic recovery as well as intellectual restructuring after the Second World War. The Initiative Group Alpbach Chisinau was instituted in December 2005. Moldova’ representatives from part of the international network composed of 17 Alpbach initiative groups and clubs from 12 countries. The major objective of the Alpbach Chisinau group is to promote democracy, human rights, the importance of education, including higher, and the European spirit among the youth.
