The three Moldovan athletes who won medals at the second Youth Olympic Games this summer were awarded by Prime Minister Iurie Leanca, IPN reports.
Serghei Tarnovschi, the winner of gold in kayak-canoeing, received 100,000 lei. Dumitru Ceacusta, who won silver in freestyle wrestling, was awarded 75,000 lei, while bronze medalist in freestyle wrestling Tatiana Doncila was presented with 50,000 lei. Money awards were also offered to the coaches of the three athletes.
“The results you achieved at these Olympic Games show that you have abilities and character and that our country indeed has talents. The Government will make effort to improve sports education and the conditions for performing sports activities,” said Iurie Leanca.
The second Youth Olympic Games took place in summer in Nanjing, China. Moldova was represented by 11 athletes in six events. A sum of 335,000 lei was allocated from the Government’s reserve fund for awarding the three athletes and their coaches.
