Youngest female trolleybus driver is 23
The youngest female driver of the Chisinau Trolleybus Company is only 23, while the eldest one is 59.
Driver Natalia Cicaly has told Info-Prim Neo that she learned to drive a vehicle five years ago, but stated to drive a trolleybus more than a year ago.
The young female driver, who now works at the trolleybus company No. 1, said she initially drove a small car, but one day decided to drive a trolleybus. She stressed she was delighted when she was recently given a new trolleybus.
Natalia Cicaly said she feels safer when she drives a trolleybus and feels the increased attention paid to her by passengers, drivers and passersby.
59-year-old driver Valentina Balan, who works at the trolleybus company No. 2, has the longest length of service as trolleybus driver – 30 years. She stated for the Agency that it was earlier something unusual to see a female trolleybus driver. She said that at work she met her husband, who was also a trolleybus driver. They have two children and a grandchild.
Chisinau Trolleybus Company head Gheorghe Morgoci told Info-Prim Neo that 14 of the 45 female drivers working at the company are older than 50, eight are aged between 40 and 50, 13 are aged between 30 and 40, while 10 are younger than 30.
He said the number of road accidents involving trolleybuses driven by women is lower than of those involving male drivers as the women are more careful and skilful.
There are 589 trolleybus drivers in the municipality of Chisinau.
