The young woman who gave birth in the toilet of the Mother and Child Institute as a result of medical abortion filed a complaint to the Prosecutor General’s Office about the quality of the provided medical assistance and the physical and psychological effects of those acts. The information was communicated by Promo-LEX Association, which decided to offer free legal assistance to the woman in the ensuing legal processes.
In this connection, Promo-LEX expresses its concern about the twist taken by this story in the online media given the use of speech that incite hatred and discrimination by involving this and other young women who shared publicly similar experiences. The Association considers it is inopportune to generalize and denigrate health professionals.
“This case revealed a phenomenon that seems to be rather spread and refers to the abuses and quality of the medical assistance to women in labor. In the period, the women are particularly vulnerable, especially owing to the psychological impact of the process of birth giving and the experienced suffering. As far as we can see, these circumstances can be used by ill-intentioned medical workers,” said Promo-LEX lawyer Dumitru Sliusarenco.
Promo-LEX calls on the women who went through similar experiences to inform the competent authorities, IPN reports.
The young woman who is represented by Promo-LEX accuses doctors and nurses of indifference as she was left to suffer pain during 23 hours and gave birth alone in the hospital’s toilet as a result of recommended medical abortion in the 21st week of pregnancy owing to congenital malformation identified in the fetus. As a result of a ministerial inquiry, it was decided to dismiss the head of the Gynecology Section, the senior midwife and the nurse who was on shift on December 13-14, 2018. Punishment in the form of reprimand was imposed on the doctor on guard, the director of the Perinatal Center and medical vice director of the Mother and Child Institute. A disciplinary punishment in the form of warning was also put on the Institute’s director Sergiu Gladun.
