Young politicians from 16 countries attend international conference in Chisinau
About 70 young politicians from 16 East European and Asian countries participate in the Young Political Leaders Seminar, hosted by Chisinau, devoted to increasing youth engagement and awareness in all aspects of public life.
The 4 day long seminar will promote sharing experiences among the participants, encourage discussions of public policy challenges in the countries represented, etc.
The seminar’s opening was also attended by President Vladimir Voronin. In his greeting speech the head of state affirmed that
“the role of youth in political and social life is utterly important, this is why politicians maintain youth-related problems in the spotlight, and support youngsters in their launching and gradual affirmation into politics”. President Voronin informed participants about activities carried out in order to promote political leadership among youngsters. President also remarked that “Moldovan authorities understand the problems youngsters have to confront with and share their opinions.” In this respect, Vladimir Voronin emphasized the social support offered by the Moldovan government to youths.
Minister of Education and Youth Victor Tvircun stated that “developing civic spirit among youngsters is one of the priority directions of the Government”. In his belief, this conference and a constant dialogue will strengthen co-operation between young political leaders from the region.
Grigore Petrenco, chairman of the Communist Youth’s Union, Natalia Ciobanu, one of the young leaders of “Our Moldova Alliance”, Oleg Tulea (Democratic Party), and others represent Moldova at the seminar.
The US Agency for International Development (USAID) is sponsoring the seminar, partnered by the International Republican Institute, the National Democratic Institute, and the American Council of Young Political Leaders.
