Young people maltreated on April 7, 2009 seek help from Mihai Ghimpu
The young people who were mistreated in April 2009 and their parents asked Head of Parliament Mihai Ghimpu to offer them help. Some of them want the truth about the April 7, 2009 events to be discovered as soon as possible, while others seek travel concessions, free access to performances and money for medical treatment. Mihai Ghimpu spoke with them for about two hours on April 8, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“Your children used the constitutional right to protest when they went to the National Assembly Square. Until recently, we did not know what really happened there on the night of April 8,” Mihai Ghimpu said.
He apologized to the parents and young people for the previous Government's acts. “Their major goal was to intimidated the young people so that they forget about democracy and freedom,” Ghimpu said.
Constantin Harstioaga, a witness to the events, said he expects the parliamentary commission of inquiry will provide clear answers.
Former MP Valentina Cusnir complained to Mihai Ghimpu that the Prosecutor General's Office did not accept her application to be questioned as a wiriness to the April events. She said that on April 7, she tried to stop the police officers who were shooting tear gas at the protesters, but was treated rudely by Alexandru Besliu, adviser to the former Speaker Marian Lupu..
Parent Ludmila Gumeni said her 15-year-old son Chiril was beaten by an officer of the Anticorruption Center, who gave him €300 afterward and asked him to say he broke his leg when he was playing football. Chiril Gumeni still moves with difficulty, has headaches and sleeps badly at night. “They took me from the street by a car to a place and punched and kicked me there. Afterward, they left me near the school,” Chiril said.
Other young persons said they were beaten in police stations and forced to sign false statements.
Student Radu Banari said the maltreated young persons should be provided with permits to travel by public means of transport, while another student, Sergiu, said they should be allowed to watch the play “April 7, 2009” that is presented at “Satiricus-I. L. Caragiale” Theater free of charge.
At the end of the discussion, Mihai Ghimpu asked those attending the meeting not to be afraid and submit petitions and proofs to the investigation bodies.
