The Coordination Council of the Youth from Gagauzia is against holding a referendum on Gagauzia gaining independence from Moldova. The Council calls on the politicians and age deans of the autonomous unit not to allow endangering the future by withdrawing from the composition of the sovereign state Moldova, IPN reports.
According to a statement of the Council, the initiative of some groups of people to collect signatures in favor of holding the referendum is aimed at improving the relations between the Moldovans and Gagauzians. The young people condemn the not carefully planned decisions of some of the politicians who try to deprive a sovereign state of the future for short-term political benefits.
The young people say the Moldovans, Gagauzians, Russians, Ukrainians, Bulgarians, Jews, Romanians and people of other nationalities who live on Moldova’s territory form a people for whom this state is the mother country. Tolerance and the respect for other cultures and religions were always typical of the Moldovan people and this is a condition for Gagauzia to develop within a peaceful state, according to them.
