Young people from Budești complain that local authorities do not take into account their needs

Young people from Budești commune, Chisinau municipality, accuse local authorities of lack of action and say that the youth is forced to leave the locality, as the decision makers do nothing to provide them with a favourable development environment.

At an IPN press conference, Cristian Ermurachi maintained that in the 2018-2023 Plan, the local administration envisaged the development of competitive school and pre-school education and the provision of library with books needed for the students’ compulsory reading. The cost is estimated at over 200 thousand lei. "Following my visit to the library I noticed that, from 2018 until now, compulsory reading manuals have been procured for only four thousand lei. The question arises: where should young people take literary works until 2023, for as long as the project lasts?” the young man asked.

Cristian Ermurachi mentions that the local public administration undertook to rehabilitate and enhance the cultural heritage of Budești. That is, the relaunch and maintenance of the activities of amateur art groups and of sports teams of football, volleyball, basketball and their endowment with the necessary sports equipment. The estimated cost is 300 thousand lei. In fact, the local administration sold the football field to an individual in 2011, and since then this land plot has been resold five times.

Since the local football team exists, no logistical help has been provided, all expenses have been covered by the players. The basketball team has been active for two years in the locality and has not been able to receive support for the purchase of necessary sports equipment, said Cristian Ermurachi.

Another young man, Victor Sandu, says the local administration should support young people. However, realities are different. Spaces set aside for parks and recreation sites are either sold or leased. Young people have no place to spend their free time, with PECO stations turning into youth centers.

Sorin Creangă, a resident of Budești commune, says that a positive development is that, during the last two years, several extra-curricular centers for students have been opened. Yet, students come to Chisinau for more study opportunities.

Young people ask local decision makers to take into account their needs and say they are open to come up with initiatives that would develop the potential of their settlement. The young people urged their peers not to be afraid to speak publicly about the problems they are facing and to be actively involved in the decision-making processes in the country.
