Young people from 13 communities win grants to implement local projects

Thirteen projects were chosen in the fourth round of the Small Grants Program for being financed by the Ministry of Youth and Sport and East Europe Foundation. One grant was worth at most 10,000 lei. The projects will be implemented during three months of the signing of contracts, IPN reports.

According to specialist for youth policies of the Varnita mayor’s office Svetlana Budistean, the projects include concrete community initiatives in such areas as education, culture, ecology and human rights. The files of the 24 applicants were assessed in two stages, according to a number of criteria, on a scale of 1 to 10.

A volleyball court will be built in Puhaceni village of Anenii Noi district during the next three months. Head of the initiative group “Vis” Silvia Buga said such a court will attract children and teens from the village and will persuade them to lead a healthy lifestyle. The grant will be used to purchase pipes for laying out the territory, the net, chairs and a light projector. The field will be secured so that it poses no threat. The financing is not enough and therefore they sought help from a local Ltd and from the mayor’s office so as to complete the project.

Head of the initiative group “Workout-Clan” Mihai Canter said the project to set up a workout ground for which the group led by him won a grant will interest all the children and young people of the village. The own contributions of the initiative group will be used to purchase sports gloves, while the grant will go to buy special rubbers, bars and other training equipment.

The initiative group “BM Style” won a grant to create optimal conditions for teaching modern dances to 40 children and teens from Severnyi quarter of Bender town. The group’s head Irina Saevskaya said the 10,000 lei will be used to purchase mirrors for the hall and to renovate the floor so that this is not cold in winter.

The projects within the Small Grants Program are financed by the Ministry of Youth and Sport, in the amount of 100 000 lei, and East Europe Foundation, with a contribution of 55 000 lei, through the Youth Association “Chance” and the Varnita Youth Fund.

The Small Grants Program is intended for initiative groups of young people and local youth councils of Anenii Noi district and is implemented as part of the project “Varnita – Youth Capital 2017”.
