Young men detained in Tiraspol released
The four young men from the village of Oxentea, Dubasari district, who were arrested by the Transnistrian border guards on January 27 while walking on the ice of the frozen Nistru, have been released today. At 19:10 they were handed to the Moldovan police on the Dubasari bridge, Moldova's Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Victor Osipov has told Info-Prim Neo.
Quite unexpected is that three persons from Rascaieti village, Stefan Voda district, arrested recently have been released from Tiraspol's detention as well.
According to Osipov, the release was possible due to the insistent requests formulated at Thursday's meeting of the Joint Control Commission (JCC) by Gen. Ion Solonenco, the JCC's co-chairman on behalf of Chisinau, as well as previous requests by the Moldovan central and local authorities as well as the families of the arrested persons.
Osipov says the release is a confirmation to the fact that the constructive attitude and the reasoned insistence on the part of the Chisinau authorities can influence the authorities in Tiraspol, even if the solution came after a long period during which ordinary citizens had suffered.
“We hope that such regrettable incidents won't happen again and that Tiraspol sticks to the provisions, including of the Moldovan-Russian ceasefire agreement of 1992, which obliges us all to respect civil rights, and that includes the freedom of movement in the security zone”, says Osipov.
The case of the four detained young men was discussed with the participants in the 5+2 talks as well, which contributed to the release, said the deputy prime minister.
