The youth organizations of the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” (PPDA), the Party “Action and Solidarity” (PAS) and the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) launched a campaign to collect signatures to demand that the authorities should amend a Government decision so that the dwellers have access to student dorms after 12 midnight as well.
In a news conference at IPN, Dan Perciun, head of the PAS youth organization, said the restricting of access to student dorms represents an unjustified limitation of student rights. “The given campaign is the first of a series of activities that we will initiate in the immediate period. This way we want to bring the problems of young people into the authorities’ focus,” he stated Dan Perciun.
The leaders of the youth organizations aim to collect about 4,000 signatures in student dorms and at tents that will be put up in front of universities during three weeks.
“Access to dorms at any hour is important for a student. If we want to follow a European path, we should learn from the experience in Romania, for example. There, the students can enter dorms with the help of a card anytime,” said the head of the PPDA youth organization Liviu Vovc. “In Chisinau alone, 11,000 students live in dorms. Their rights should be protected. We pledge to help them protect this right. We call on the rectors to support this petition.”
Ruxanda Macuh, leader of the PLDM youth organization, stated the authorities should make sure that the young people also enjoy other opportunities, besides unrestricted access to dorms. “We are young and have the right to live as we want. When we say ‘as we want’, we mean being able to go to the theater and do something without having to provide explanations to the administration. We should be able to go to a party without our private life becoming a subject for discussion. We call upon the managers of all the education institutions to join in this initiative,” she said.
