The Youth Organization of the Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM) is for the UK to remain in the European Union. About 50 young members of the party demonstrated and chanted slogans in favor of the UK’s stay in the EU near the British Embassy in Chisinau. “We support the united and extended Europe that includes the UK and which Moldova should also enter!” said the young Democrats, quoted by IPN.
The event was staged one day before the referendum on whether to stay in the EU or not that will be held in the UK. “We wanted to show solidarity with those who are for the UK’s stay in the EU. We also wanted to urge all our expatriates who have British nationality to go to the referendum and say “No Brexit!” on June 23,” said the head of the PDM’s Youth Organization in Chisinau Igor Usturoi.
Radu Cherdivara, who heads the similar organization in Rascani, said that a united family within the European Union is needed. “A European Union without the UK will not be the same EU that we know. Both from political and economic viewpoints, Moldova needs the European support of the UK,” he stated.
According to the young Democrats, polls show a close score between the two camps, with a slight advantage in favor of the camp that is for the UK to remain in the EU. The referendum was organized following the electoral promises made last year by the conservative Prime Minister David Cameron to offer the Brits the possibility of pronouncing on the membership in the EU.
