A 30-year-old man from Chisinau was sentenced to six years in prison for fraud. He appropriated sums of money from a number of people to whom he told that he provided various services and offered an apartment for rent in the capital city, IPN reports.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, in 2021-2023 the defendant obtained over 70,000 lei from seven persons in exchange for alleged services, which he did not provide. In one case, the young man lied to a person looking for rented accommodation, telling him that he owned an apartment in Ciocana district. He persuaded the victim to pay €120 for rent.
According to prosecutors, the defendant pleaded guilty.
The Buiucani Court of Chisinau sentenced the man to six years behind bars and banned him from holding positions or carrying out activities related to the management of financial resources and material assets of other persons for a three-year period.
The sentence is not final and can be challenged in the Chisinau Court of Appeal.
