A 21-year-old man from Mărcăuți, Briceni, was sentenced to three years and eight months in prison for attempting to have sex with a 12-year-old girl.

According to a Prosecutor General's Office press release, in August 2018, the man noticed the little girl, who was fishing together with another child. He promised her that he would offer her fish, which he has at home. While heading to his place, when they reached a cornfield, the man tried to lift her shirt, however, the little girl managed to escape. "As a result, her mother notified the authorities. The perpetrator committed the crime while executing the term of probation for the crime of robbery", the statement said.

Law enforcement officers investigated and sent the case to criminal court. On November 4, the Edineț Court, Briceni headquarters, found the man guilty of luring the girl for sexual purposes. "At the request of the prosecutors, the offender was sentenced to prison for a term of 3 years and eight months. The convict is entitled to appeal", the press release said.
