Young families to enjoy housing subsidies
Young married couples aged under 30 whose members are working in government-funded sectors, including the social and mandatory health insurance systems, will receive one-time subsidies to buy or build a home, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Under a recently adopted Government decision, young families with one child will get 30,000 lei, those with two children 40,000 lei, and those with three and more children 50,000 lei.
At the same time, young childless families will receive a monthly benefit worth 300 lei to pay rent. Deputy Premier Victor Stepaniuc said the recipients would have to meet a set of criteria like the lack of housing in ownership; the area alloted to each member of the family in the currently inhabited home is smaller than the government-set limit of 6 square meters; the beneficiary hasn't sold any home, immovable property or plot of land over the past five years; the recipient family hasn't enjoyed housing subsidies or any other government support for this purpose before.
Stepaniuc said the measure would require 100 million lei this year. The subsidies will be paid by the Ministry of Local Public Administration. Qualified for the housing subsidizing program are an estimated of 4,700 young families.
The next step in reducing youth homelessness would be the implementation of the Mortgage Law, which is supposed to facilitate the access of different categories of population to affordable homes.
