Young Elector Day to be observed in Moldova

The Central Election Commission (CEC) will mark on 6-10 November the Young Elector Day that will be carried out in the education institutions from Moldova. CEC members, MPs, leaders of political parties, local authorities will participate in it. CEC head Eugeniu Stirbu announced Thursday November 2, at a press conference, that the action will not be of political nature. The young electors will be given lectures about democracy, the right to elect and be elected etc. The action aims at raising public awareness, especially of the young electors, concerning the necessity of participation in elections. In this respect, he mentioned that the electoral activism in Moldova is on decrease that is why in 2007 CEC will pay special attention to this phenomenon. The action will be organized in 453 lyceums and schools, 11 polyvalent schools, 32 colleges and 27 institutions of higher education. CEC has organized such actions for the first time on May 22-25, 2006, in 105 schools from Chisinau.
