Young disabled people from both banks of Nistru learn art of photography

Sixteen children with disabilities from both banks of the Nistru River learned together to make themselves heard. The workshop “Photovoice methods, photographic techniques” was organized by the Legal Assistance Center for Persons with Disabilities (CAJPD) in partnership with the Tiraspol-based Rehabilitation and Counseling Center for Children and Young People with Mental and Physical Disabilities OSORT, IPN reports, quoting a communiqué of the CAJPD.

The participants in the workshop studies Photovoice photographic techniques. Photovoice is a method of sensitizing decision makers by presenting ‘living photographs’ taken by socially deprived persons with a view to obtaining the inclusion of their problems in the agenda.

Participant Valentina Andronache, 31, from Nisporeni, said that this training seminar helped her to learn how to immortalize the most beautiful and pleasant moments of her life. “I never thought that any picture should be taken with a certain goal. The goal is to present our feelings and emotions. We were also able to get acquainted with mates and to establish relations of friendship and cooperation with them” she stated.

Participant Tatiana Druc, 19, from Bender, said that the persons with special needs learned to express their opinions on the problems they face by using pictures and this way will be able to influence the decision-making process.

The workshop forms part of a project implemented with the financial support of the European Union and UNDP within the Support to Confidence Building Measures Program.
