Young dentist accused of causing patient’s death out of negligence

The prosecutors accuse a dental surgeon aged 25 of practicing medicine illegally and of causing the death of a patient out of negligence, Info-Prim Neo reports. In a communiqué, the Prosecutor General’s Office says that on January 5, 2009, the dentist, who was providing dental services without a license in his office in Durlesti town, administered treatment to a patient without establishing his general condition. The dentist gave an anesthetic to the patient and pulled three teeth out without inquiring about the examinations and operations he had. When coming home, the man felt suddenly sick. He was taken to the Municipal Clinical Hospital “Saint Trinity” in Chisinau, where he was diagnosed with cadriogenic shock. On January 6, he died of acute cardiopulmonary insufficiency – pulmonary edema. According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the dentist was obliged to inquire about the condition of the patient and include the obtained information in the patient’s private records or in the patient register. “The expert commission determined that the dental treatment that the man received accelerated the development of the myocardial infarction,” the communiqué says. The Prosecutor’s Office of Buiucani district opened a legal case against the dentist over illegal practicing of medicine and causing of a patient’s death out of negligence. The case was sent to the Buiucani District Court. The dentist was banned from leaving the country.
