Yevgheny Shevchuk questioned by prosecutors

Former Transnistrian leader Yevgheny Shevchuk was questioned by prosecutors. Vitalie Busuioc, deputy head of the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases, has told IPN that the questioning took place earlier this week.

“We opened an investigation following particular recent events. We were notified and informed ourselves, including from the press. We hold inquiries and question persons. We also questioned Yevgheny Shevchuk. Now we will not make comments so as not to influence the investigation,” stated Vitalie Busuioc.

At the end of June, the Supreme Soviet of the self-proclaimed Transnistrian republic withdrew the immunity of Yevgheny Shevchuk so that this could be investigated for abuse of power. Following reports that Shevchuk found refuge in Chisinau, Lib-Dem Tudor Deliu two times requested to question the administration of the Security and Intelligence Service and the Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration in Parliament, but his proposal was rejected.
