Weather forecasters issued a yellow code advisory for difficult elements. On January 5, the meteorological conditions will change suddenly. There will be snow and sleet, with snowstorms in parts and ice on the roads. The people are warned to be cautious so as to avoid cases of hyperthermia and other situations of risk.

Contacted by IPN, forecaster Natalia Golub said last night was one of the coldest nights this year, with temperatures of -22 degrees Celsius. The temperatures this week will rise gradually. There will be +1 - +2 degrees Celsius during the day and -10 degrees Celsius at night. The rising temperatures will be slightly above the norm.

“It’s something normal for the country as our territory is permanently under the influence of a cold air mass followed by a warm air mass. Such weather in January is typical for our country,” said the forecaster.

In connection with the worsening of the weather, the General Police Inspectorate recommends wearing warm clothes and avoiding prolonged exposure to cold, in open places. The drivers are warned to have the reservoir permanently full, water for 24 hours, food, a warm blanket, a Thermos bottle with tea and evidently a medical kit and not to leave the vehicle if there is a blizzard and they don’t know the distance up to a safe point as they can get lost and suffer hypothermia.
