Yellow code advisory for nitrogen dioxide pollution in Balti

The State Hydrometeorological Service has issued a yellow code warning concerning a high level of nitrogen dioxide pollution for April 12 and 13. The maximum concentrations exceeded the sanitary norms 1.1-2.0 times.

“We are under the influence of the warm period and air masses move slowly. This factor contributed to the rise in the nitrogen dioxide levels. There is no imminent danger to health,” Natalia Zgircu, deputy head of the Service’s Environment Quality Monitoring Division, has told IPN.

However, the population is advised to maximally reduce the stay in industrial areas and to walk more in green areas. The recommendation is intended mainly for children, pregnant women and elderly persons. Those with diseases of the cardiovascular system and respiratory system are advised to reduce physical effort.

To prevent the dangerous rise in air pollution, the business entities are obliged to take measures to reduce the noxious emissions by 15-20%. The traffic police are requested to contribute to optimally directing road traffic and to prevent the formation of traffic jams.
