Yellow code advisory for hydrological drought extended

The yellow code advisory for hydrological drought has been extended until August 17. Valentina Ceres, head of the Hydrological Forecasts Unit of the State Hydrometeorology Service has told IPN that the water in the rivers of the country is practically stagnant. The flow capacity is very low and the small rivers on some portions even dried up.

At the hydrological post Grigoriopol on the Nistru River, the minimum multiannual level of water on August 6-10 was the lowest. The Ukrainian authority allowed discharging water from the Dnestrovsk reservoir, in the amount of 140 cubic meters per second. Until now the highest flow capacity was 135 cubic meters per second.

Valentina Ceres said the Ukrainian side would like to increase the volume of discharged water, but the situation in the neighboring county is similar to that in Moldova.

The population and economic entities are urged to rationally consume water. No rain is forecast for the next seven days.
