Weather forecasters issued a yellow code warning for air pollution with phenol in Tiraspol for the period between February 11 and February 12 inclusive, IPN reports.
According to the State Hydrometeorology Service, the sanitary norms on phenol concentrations in the town are 2-3.2 times higher. These concentrations over the next few days are expected to rise following the weather conditions unfavorable for dispersion. Phenol enters the atmosphere as a result of incomplete burning of hydrocarbons. Among the main sources are motor vehicles, thermoelectric plants, and leather factories.
Phenol is a dangerous pollutant that can cause damage to persons suffering from respiratory infections. It attacks the bronchi and lungs and can cause nervous system disorders.
The people are urged to maximally reduce the period of stay in industrial areas, especially the children, pregnant women and elderly persons. It is recommended using protection masks.
