A yellow air pollution code was issued in Tiraspol as the admissible level of phenol concentration in the air was exceeded about two times. Contacted by IPN, Victoria Midari, senior specialist at the State Hydrometeorology Service, said the concentration is due to the gases eliminated by enterprises and motor vehicles that do not evaporate owing to the high temperatures and the lack of precipitation. An increased level of air pollution is expected the next days.

Victoria Midari recommended the Transnistrians, especially the children, pregnant women and elderly persons, to avoid the industrial areas and to walk in green areas. The persons with cardiovascular and respiratory disease are urged to reduce physical effort.

In order to prevent dangerous concentrations of pollutants in the air, the companies are obliged to take short-term measures to reduce noxious emissions by about 15-20%. The traffic police are asked to contribute to the optimal direction of traffic so as to prevent jams.
