The opening of the Year of Dumitru Matcovschi will take place at the National Theater “Mihai Eminescu” in Chisinau on February 8, the Ministry of Culture said on its website. The event will include a recital of poetry and songs under the poet’s verses and the presentation of the play “Life Tree” by Dumitru Matcovschi.

The program dedicated to the Year of Dumitru Matcovschi contains a number of cultural events with social impact, including the literary-musical performance “With your name”, the international colloquium “Modern philology. Accomplishments and prospects in European context”, the literary-musical soirée “In memoriam Dumitru Matcovschi”, etc.

Writer, poet and dramatist Dumitru Matcovschi died in 2013. For his special merits, Dumitru Matcovschi was named a titular member of the Academy of Sciences and was awarded the Oder of the Republic. He was also conferred the People’s Writer title and the State Award of Moldova.
