Writers meet with Premier at yearend

The members of the Writers Union on December 28 had a meeting with Prime Minister Vlad Filat, where they took stock of the Union’s accomplishments this year and discussed the future projects, Info-Prim Neo reports. “This year we have carried out a number of large-scale projects and activities. Among the most important ones are the adoption of the adjusted Statutes of the Writers Union, whereby there was elected the administration, including the Board and the chairman, in a democratic way, and the trips made by groups of writers to the country’s districts, to schools and libraries, where they met children and adolescents. We also implemented a book printing program that was financed by the Government. Within it, 20 colleagues of ours published their works,” said Arcadie Suceveanu, chairman of the Writers Union. Prime Minister Vlad Filat underlined the role played by the writers in Moldova. “Your contribution is significant and I don’t think there is a possibility of measuring it somehow,” he stated, assuring that the Government will continue to support the Writers Union by activities aimed at promoting culture and writing and by providing financing for projects that the Union plans to implement.
