Writer Nicolae Dabija is buried today, March 15

Writer Nicolae Dabija is buried at the Central Cemetery situated on Armenească St in Chisinau on March 15. A service will be held at Saint Teodora de la Sihla Church starting at 10:30am. The cortege will set off for the cemetery at 11:30pm. The religious ceremony at the cemetery will begin at 12 noon, IPN reports.

The Chisinau City Hall said it will organize the mourning rituals as part of the funeral of writer and publicist Nicolae Dabija. The Funeral Services Combine is responsible for decoration at the cemetery, while the Culture Division will stage a performance based on Nicolae Dabija’s poems. In the evening of March 14, the coffin with the writer’s body was laid at Saint Teodora de la Sihla Church for all those who knew him and other people to bid farewell to him.

Democratic MP Monica Babuc initiated an online petition addressed to the senior administration, asking to declare March 15, 2021 a national mourning day all over Moldova. “The entire work and the aspirations of the great writer, publicist and man of steel Nicolae Dabija were devoted to our Romanian Nation and the most sacred values of this Nation! Few didn’t ever hum his verses […] We all knew his uprightness in the fight for our national ideals. We always found him near the people of this Nation! That’s why this Nation should render the homage deserved by the great man Nicolae Dabija!” says the petition.

Later, President Maia Sandu signed a decree by which March 15 was declared a mourning day in sign of deep sadness caused by the death of the famous writer, leading supporter of the national renaissance movement, signatory of the Declaration of Independence of the Republic of Moldova, academician and literary historian. The presidential decree says the national flags all over the country will be flown at half-mast today and a moment’s silence will be observed at midday. The funeral will be broadcast live on the national broadcaster “Teleradio-Moldova”. The public authorities and organizations are recommended to give up holding large-scale recreational activities. The editorial staffs, newspapers, radio and TV stations are urged to take into account today’s particularities when editing publications and compiling programs.

Academician Nicolae Dabija, writer, publicist, scriptwriter and editor, died in the morning of March 12. He succumbed to COVID-19 while in the reanimatology section of the Emergency Medicine Institute.
