Greco-Roman wrestler Victor Ciobanu achieved the best result so far among the members of Moldova’s squad at the Tokyo Olympics. Making his debut at the largest sport event in the world, the 28-year-old athlete took the honorable fifth place after scoring two victories and two defeats, IPN reports.
In the match for the bronze medal, Mihai Cucul’s pupil lost to Russia’s Sergey Emelin whom he managed to beat in the final of the European Wrestling Championship of 2019. At the current Olympic Games, Victor Ciobanu displayed spectacular techniques that were noticed also by the president of United Word Wrestling Nenad Lalovic.
Also today, weightlifter Elena Kylchic finished eight in the 87 kg weight class, while athlete Sergei Marghiev managed to qualify for the final of hammer throw.
