Natalia Budu ranked fifth at the European Wrestling Championships that are taking place in Riga. She scored two victories and had two defeats in the 53 kg class. Budu beat the representatives of Italy and Poland, but lost the decisive fights to the athletes of Belarus and Ukraine, IPN reports.
Nicolae Ceban reached the quarterfinals. In the 97 kg class, he easily defeated the Albanian athlete, but was then beaten by the representative of Germany. Defeats were suffered during the first fights by Doina Roscovanu (48 kg), Ion Hurmuzachi (86 kg), Alexandru Chirtoaca (57 kg) and Andrei Perpelita (65 kg). Mihail Esanu (61 kg), Nicolae Chiriacov (70 kg) and Andrei Romanov (120 kg) continue the struggle.
The European Wrestling Championships in Riga are not a stage for earning qualification for the Rio Olympics. That’s why Mihail Sava and Petru Ianulov refused to take part in them.
