World sportsman becomes world champion in universal fights

Pavel Pocatilov has become a world champion in universal fights, the under-85-kg category – a big performance for the Moldovan fighter. Other two sportsmen, Radu Baranov and Ion Zavtoni, climbed on the third place, in the 90-kg and, respectively, the 80-kg categories, Info-Prim Neo reports. The 9th edition of the World Universal Fights Championship, held in Russia's Kaliningrad, from October 22 to 26, was attended by 158 sportspeople from 37 countries. Moldova sent ten sportspeople. The President of the Moldovan Federation, Vladimir Mihalache, told a news conference on October 29 that the Moldovan sportspeople were bringing very good results from events abroad. The championship was very difficult, said an official of the Mix Fight Club, Ion Gheorghiu. The results are to prove that Moldova is strong in martial arts, with other four countries than won premium places: Azerbaijan, Latvia, Uzbekistan and Russia, Ion Gheorghiu said. The Universal Fights National Federation has been a member of the World Federation since 1999. The Moldovan sportspeople have attended all those 7 championships held by the World Federation and have won 39 medals, of which 6 golden.
