A number of 700 books gathered within the campaign “Share a book, Share health” that was carried out by the State University of Medicine and Pharmaceutics “Nicolae Testemitanu” reached children admitted to the Hospital “Emilian Cotaga” of the Mother and Child Institute on World Health Day, IPN reports.

According to a press release of the campaign organizers, each of the about 100 hospitalized children received by a book of fairytales or poems and coloring books and color pencils, while the elder ones got novel books. A part of the donated books were placed in wards’ mini-libraries so as to be accessible to everyone.

In a special event entitled “Reading hour”, second-year student of medicine Anastasia Moscalu read fairytales to children. “I saw they were delighted when I read them the tale “Travelling frog”. It was rather interesting. They were attentive, as the parents were,” she stated. Earlier, the young woman worked as a volunteer at a placement center where she helped the children do the homework and read tales to the young every weekend.

Maria Capcelea, chief assistant in the Otorhinolaryngology Ward, welcomed the initiative, saying this gladdened the patients. “The children come to us for surgery and are stressed. Today they had a great joy. All the children have books to read,” she said.

The campaign was carried out between February 15 and April 1. In the period, both members of the university community and persons from outside it donated books. Students of the Chisinau Theoretical Lyceum “Dacia” contributed over 180 books.

The campaign “Share a book, Share health” was launched in 2014 by the Communication and PR Department of the State University of Medicine and Pharmaceutics “Nicolae Testemitanu”.

World Health Day is marked annually on April 7, including at the University “Nicolae Testemitanu” that this year promoted health through reading.
